Skin & Device-Based Treatments
ZO® Skin Health in Northcote
Medical-grade skincare from dermatologist Dr Zein Obagi, available in clinic. Your nurse builds a ZO routine around your skin and your treatment plan.
Skin care, at home.
Your skin meets sun, dry air and its own slow changes every day, so care at home is part of any plan. Select a concern to see how it develops and where a ZO routine may fit. Every treatment journey begins with a consultation with a registered nurse.
-
Skin gets its colour from a natural brown pigment. Sun exposure, hormonal changes and skin irritation can prompt the skin to make more of it in patches, which can show as dark spots or an uneven tone. Pigment can sit in the skin for a long time, and sun exposure can make it more noticeable again, which is why change tends to be slow.
Products designed to support pigment treatment, used before and between sessions: a vitamin C serum, a brightener with tranexamic acid and niacinamide, or a retinol product, with sunscreen every day. Your nurse chooses what suits your skin, and any change may take several weeks.
-
Tiny blood vessels run close to the surface of the skin, and more blood shows through when they widen. Heat, sun, alcohol, stress and some skin conditions can bring on flushing, which usually fades. Thin or sensitive skin lets more of that colour show, and skin that is dry or irritated can react more easily.
A routine for skin prone to redness is designed to be gentle: a mild cleanser and a serum designed to calm the look of redness and support the skin barrier. Your nurse starts slowly and adds one product at a time, because some active products can irritate sensitive skin.
-
The surface of the skin renews itself by shedding old cells as new ones rise. When that slows, with age, sun exposure or dryness, dead skin can build up and the surface can feel rough or look dull. Oil and debris can stretch the opening of a pore so it looks larger, and pore size is also partly inherited.
Exfoliating products are designed to support this renewal at home: a fine-grain polish and pads with glycolic and salicylic acid, built up slowly over a few weeks. They are designed to help clear excess oil from the surface. Results vary.
-
Healthy skin reflects light evenly because its surface is even and well hydrated. As renewal slows with age, dry cells stay on the surface for longer and scatter light, so skin can look flat. Sun exposure, dry air, tiredness and a skin barrier under strain can add to this, and dullness is often several of these at once.
A simple morning and night routine is the usual starting point: a gentle cleanser, a vitamin C serum designed to support a brighter, more even-looking tone, an antioxidant serum and sunscreen. Your nurse builds it around your skin and reviews it as you go.
-
When a breakout heals, the skin repairs the area by making new collagen. If too little is made, a dip can remain, and some marks are flat patches of darker colour left once the skin has healed. Deeper breakouts, and picking at them, make scarring more likely. A scar is a change in the skin's structure, so skin care cannot reshape a dip.
ZO is not a treatment for scars. It is used to prepare the skin for a few weeks before needling or peels and to support it afterwards, with your nurse timing each product around your treatment plan.
ZO Skin Health is one of the options a registered nurse may discuss with you at a consultation. This information is general and is not personal medical advice. Every person's skin is different. At your consultation, a registered nurse will assess your skin, your history and your goals before recommending a routine.

ZO questions, answered.
What is ZO Skin Health?
ZO Skin Health is a medical-grade skincare range created by dermatologist Dr Zein Obagi. It's sold through clinics, so a trained practitioner sets up your routine rather than you choosing off a shelf.
Using ZO with treatments
ZO is often used to prepare the skin for a few weeks before needling, peels or laser, and to support it afterwards. Your nurse times it around your treatment plan, as some active products pause before and after treatment.
Is ZO suitable for sensitive skin?
Some ZO products are strong actives, so your nurse starts sensitive skin slowly with gentler products and builds up. Tell us about any reactions you've had to skincare.
How often do I use ZO Skin Health?
ZO Skin Health is used at home, usually morning and night, starting with a few products. Any change may take several weeks of a consistent routine, and pigment can take longer. Results vary. Your nurse builds the routine at a 30-minute skin consultation at our Northcote clinic and reviews it as you go.
How much does ZO cost?
Your nurse builds a routine to suit your skin and budget and tells you the price of each product before you buy. A starting routine can be just two or three products.
Is ZO the same as Obagi?
No. Dr Zein Obagi created the Obagi range first, then founded ZO Skin Health separately. They're different companies with different products.
How much downtime is there with ZO Skin Health?
ZO Skin Health has no downtime, though active products can cause some dryness or flaking at first. Retinol products can also bring some redness early on. Your nurse at our Northcote clinic explains how to manage this settling-in period, and starts sensitive skin slowly with gentler products before building up.
Who is ZO Skin Health for?
ZO Skin Health is for people who want to care for their skin at home between visits, including for pigmentation, redness, uneven texture or dullness, or to prepare the skin before needling or peels. It's sold through clinics, so your nurse at our Northcote clinic chooses the products for your skin. Results vary.
